William and Mary Marquetry Centre Table
Stunning William and Mary marquetry inlaid walnut centre table, circa 1690.
This table is of larger than usual size, with fine attention to detail and exquisite craftsmanship throughout.
The table is decorated with extremely refined marquetry. Early examples often included birds and foliage, and on this example stained native woods depict parrots and peonies.
Inspired by the excellence of Dutch furniture, marquetry was introduced to English furniture in the 17th Century just prior to the reign of William and Mary.
This table has a long frieze drawer. It rests upon four spiral turned legs, which are united by a marquetry serpentine stretcher- typical characteristics of this period of furniture design.
With great decorative presence and a gorgeous patina to the walnut, this table would make a beautiful statement in any room.
